Color Symbolism Reflection
This assignment was our class' first try at designing with colors the correct way. The purpose of all the colors is to make sure that we are using light on dark or vice versa and finding out what colors go together and what colors should not. Also, this assignment was to help teach us what colors bring what moods or reactions to things. Color is in everything and determines how successful you will be in your design. I chose to use colorful flowers with colorful text layed over it which made it hard to read. I learned shortly after that a border or plain square behind it would have made it easier to read. However, I do think that I got the point across about what colors to use on top of each other and what each of them meant. Learning colors was the first major step in finding out what kind of designer we would be and how successful we would be in this class.
Newsletter Reflection
The newsletter was a way for Mrs. Meyer to get to know each of her students on a level she may have not been able to know in a normal classroom setting. This assignment was layed back and solely about us on a personal level. Major key components in this design were alignment and pull quotes, those being a main focus of our design. I learned how important it was to have everything symmetrical, fun fact, humans find beauty in things that are symmetrical! Newsletters would not be appealing to anyone. not even old people, if there wasn't a sense of alignment in the text and columns. Personally in my design, I used the color blue not because of the sad moods it brings but because it is my favorite color and represents me as a person; which I think I should have focused more on the mood part to bring in an audience that is more interested in reading about my life. However, the alignment was on point and the pull quotes fit in perfectly.
Menu Reflection
The Photoready Collection was my attempt at a different menu that does not include food, like what normal menu's are for. I think this was my favorite assignment out of all of them because we got to make everything up in our heads and create it however we wanted to, like it was a real business. I progressed in this assignment a lot compared to the past assignments due to being overly excited about being able to create it from scratch the way I wanted it. I chose to go with a darker color scheme to attract a modern/wild audience, as well as, makeup companies normally use darker colors to represent their products. There were not any bad comments on this project, the overall design was very nice and organized. It is extremely important for a menu to be visually appealing and easy to read. People look at menu's to get intrigued by one of your items offered, if it is unorganized and ugly, it takes away what you may be able to offer your customer.
Business Bonanza Reflection
For our last project. we were put into teams of 2 or 3 and asked to create a business with all of the aspects to it. My partners were Trevor and Lewis and we chose to do an ice cream shop called "The Frozen Spoon." This assignment was fun and interesting, we were now accountable to communicate with our members to agree on the design of everything, we could not just free will create everything. I think this was an ultimate test to see if we could take everything we have learned and turn it into a collaboration with other's creativity as well. It was interesting but fairly easy. Our group finished the whole business arrangement in 3 or so days. The only problems I see with the assignment is that we were not all completely clear on the color scheme of the business so I worry about if we used the same shade of colors. Other than that, it was a great learning experience and an even better way to prove to Mrs. Meyer that everything she taught us was not limited to only one mind but able to be shared with others to create something more than just what our own minds were creating.
