Brick Campaign Reflection
"Build Your Legacy. Brick By Brick." Portage Northern has given our class the opportunity to create advertisements for one of the biggest grants in Portage Public Schools history. Our objective was to create a flyer, banner, or both to help promote people to buy a brick to have it engraved and placed in one of our new athletic facilities. I chose to do both options and was left with a satisfying masterpiece that was considered to be published! However, I should have used a different image that would not be full of pixels if printed on a large scale. Overall, I was very proud of my banner design and thought that the flyer was organized and very intriguing, however, I was not chosen. I am not salty about this but it was definitely a learning experience. I thought that it was cool that we got to do a project for the whole Portage community and not just for our class. It gave us the ability to prove to the community that what we do in school, is worth all the money they spend on it. There isn't many schools out there that would allow there own students to create this whole advertising thing for such a big impact, for that, I am forever thankful and proud to be a part of it.
Prom Flyer Reflection
Prom 2017, The Great Gatsby Theme was not a mistake. The State Theater was a perfect spot for it and it definitely looked just like Gatsby's house (in stage form). This flyer was optional for me since I was chosen to work on a clients project during this creation, but I did it anyways. My design was kind of rushed, it did turn out good though. I used the Gatsby gates as a background because it is the most popular thing from the book/movie that would be recognized almost immediately. The purpose of this was to peak someones interest once they notice it and automatically have them connect it to Gatsby. I also used a font that has a 1920's theme and it fit perfectly with the background and theme. I did not expect to be chosen for this project just because of how rushed it was, but it was definitely a successful project.
Community Challenge Reflection
The purpose of this project was to become a employee to someone outside of the school and create a flyer or recreate a menu for their business or something they had planned. I chose to go to a friend's dad and see if he needed any help with advertising his painting company, and he did! He told me all about how he got a flyer from another person in his neighborhood for painting services and how it angered him, this gave me determination to make sure his flyer would be better and more interesting! I started with a paint chip sample collage for the background and layered a bordered box on top of it for his business information. I also added a line of paint rollers dripping all sorts of colored paint to separate the title and the contact information. This flyer turned out wonderful and he was greatly pleased with the product I created. I only hope that it was better than that flyer he received originally that gave him the motivation to get one made for his business.
Mrs. Anthony's Invitation Reflection
This project was for another teacher that had a one year old in need of a birthday invitation. Only a few students were chose to work on this for her, me being one of them. Mrs. Anthony came into this process with a clear picture of the things she wanted, that being a bunny themed invitation. This assignment was fun to play with the words and to find cute, little girly things to put onto this invitation. She asked for pastel colors so I chose to use pinks and purples to go with bunny pictures and even her baby pictures! In the end, my design was not chosen but, certain aspects of it were taken and put onto the winning invitation. If I could do anything differently, I would make it look more like a normal invitation instead of risking something new.
